GENERATION Y
This cycle of three performances closes with a cry of anger, and how could it be any other way? Since the post-war period, our generation is the first to be poorer than the previous one. We know all too well, that it is not just an economic issue. The economy, like a great domino, has repercussions on all other aspects of our daily lives, to the point of determining our desires and dreams. It is no longer time to be complacent, to think on our own, to survive. It is time for resistance, for solidarity. It is time to sacrifice ourselves for those who will come after us.
Generation 𝘠 is a theatre trilogy created by Barbe à Papa Teatro, and it is composed by three chapters: 𝘐𝘭 𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘰 𝘥𝘪 𝘉𝘢𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘦 (Babel's choir 2019) 𝘔𝘪 𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘰 (I remember 2020) e 𝘓'𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘢 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘻𝘢 (The art of resistance 2022).
Generation Y deals with themes that are strongly representative of the generation to which we belong. The generation mentioned is of those born between the 80s and the early 90s, known as “Generation Y” or “Millennials”.
It all started in 2017 when we asked ourselves the question: “what is that one place that I call home?” and the struggle to find the answer was common to all who were part of that search. We all had left our childhood hometowns, but no one had yet found a nest warm enough to call home. A spot where affections, loved places, projects and dreams could come together and become family. The bewilderment unleashed by this first refIection made us ask: “Am I alone in these fears of mine? Or do these anxieties unite me with others?” The answer to these questions generated the most painful show of the trilogy - the one that investigates our past and searches for the common matrix of traumas that bind us as a generation. But if digging into it hurt us, discovering that we are together gave us the strength to look to the future with greater hope.
